Tidal basin dc kayak9/16/2023 ![]() Personally, before I came to Georgetown, I did a pre-orientation program with OE where I backpacked through West Virginia for a week before everyone moved in. It is a great way to find students like you that share your love of the great outdoors. This includes skiing trips, rock climbing excursions, and weekend hikes. Throughout every season, the organization plans events that connect students to places they have never been. Outdoor Education (OE) is a club on campus that is designed specifically to give students access to the outdoors. is that there are ways to get out and adventure everywhere you look. Luckily, you’ll find that there are many ways to explore nature away from all the buildings. Other highlights include a Hot Tricks kite flying competition and the popular Rokkaku Kite battle, in which Japanese-style kites battle each other for sole command of the sky.Though DC is not as dense or crowded as other big cities, it can still be a change of pace for any new student coming from a place that’s less urban. The Kite Festival features a handmade kite competition for children and adults, with awards given in categories such as most artistic, most humorous and most patriotic. Kite fliers of all ages from across the United States and the world gather to fly handmade kites and compete to win prizes during this event and make life long memories with those they hold closest. The beauty of this event is almost hard to describe, it is definitely worth seeing in person. If you can take a moment to just envision what the sky would look like filled with thousands of kites flying around with many different shapes and colors. in late March during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The Blossom Kite Festival, formerly the Smithsonian Kite Festival, is an annual kite event usually held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Something is so magical thinking about flying a kite, it takes you back to your childhood and reminds you how amazing life can be if you just focus on the moment. he concept of the Tidal Basin originated in the 1870s to serve both as a visual centerpiece and as a means for flushing the Washington Channel, a harbor separated from the Potomac River by fill lands where East Potomac Park is situated. The calmer waters provide an excellent space for those just getting started on a paddleboard. The Tidal Basin is a reservoir, partially man-made, situated between the Potomac River and Washington Channel. Even though you cannot paddle into the Tidal Basin by the Jefferson Memorial (located past the Memorial Bridge and before the 14th Street Bridge), the pretty little trees can be seen surrounding the shoreline, and the cockpit of your kayak offers welcome seclusion from the crowds. Visitors to the Tidal Basin may rent paddle boats daily from spring until fall between 10 am and 5 pm. Visit in March and April to experience thousands of cherry trees in full bloom, and fill your summer days with leisurely peddling, picturesque views, and picnics in the park. Get ready to paddle your way around the Tidal Basin and spend some time with Thomas Jefferson! Although blossoms will start to open before then, the first week of April is predicted to be the best time to see the flowers at their fullest this year. The best time to plan your trip to see the Cherry Blossoms is in the month of April. The 2022 National Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled to run from March 20 to April 17. In 2021, Washington DC’s famous cherry blossom reached peak bloom on March 28. We are looking forward to welcoming back the National Cherry Festival Air Show in 2022. The National Cherry Festival will not be hosting an Air Show in 2021. This is a sure set way to be able to get all the information about the capitol, and to not miss out on any of the beauty that awaits you while you are there. One of perks of visiting Washington Dc is you can book guided tours, guided cherry blossom tours as well. Unfortunately, the blooming process does not last too long so you have to stay up to date on when they will be expected to bloom. Washington DC has much for you to do and to see when you visit the Nation’s Capitol, but many travel far and wide to be able to get a peak at the beautiful Cherry Blossoms every year. ![]()
